We’ve had a busy month of training which culminated in the rally-o trial on Sunday. Delilah got three legs in novice and got her title. In her last trial, she got 2nd place. I was so proud. Tyson only needed one more leg to get his advanced. He got first place! It really is a beautiful sight to see him working. His heel is so tight and his attention is awesome and no one would have known that he was reactive. Not a single growl, or stare or lunge came out of the big puggle and it was surprising (and sad) to see how many dogs there were reactive. Not to mention the horrible training techniques some people were using to control the reactivity. On a positive note, Cindy Boht (www.bordercollierescueont.com) is offering a reactive dog class at www.superdogcentral.com. So there’s hope for all these reactive dogs if people find out about it.
Tyson also got his beginner musical freestyle title with WCFO. Miss Delilah NQ’d. Not sure why yet but we shall try again. Last night we had our final dance class with Cassandra’s Canines and it was a ball. The dogs have come along way and we did a little routine to a Michael Jackson song. I love it. Out of all of our doggie activities, nothing puts a smile on my face like freestyle and nothing makes me a better trainer than working with Cassandra. She has such a high level of control using only voice commands.
For fun, if your dog already knows how to weave, try asking him to weave while your hands are raised about your head. Delilah thinks that’s a cue for jumping up so every time I raised my hands, despite saying weave, delilah thought I wanted her to jump. It was a training error but it was too funny, even Cassandra was laughing.
