Beware of the Choke Chain

Beware of the Choke Chain

I have one of my dogs on a martingale collar. She’s a sweet little husky puppy and has a a tendency to ‘back out’ of equipment so I figured the Martingale would be the best bet. On our morning walk at the Brickworks, I met a dog walker that witnessed a gruesome accident that involved two dogs and a choke chain. Apparently a Bernese Mountain Dog and a Lab, were having a play session at Ramsden park when one of the dog got caught in the other’s choker. They could not be separated. The end result was lethal. The dog wearing the choker had his neck broken. The owners had to call 911 and the fire department finally cut the choke chain off.
I don’t support choke chains. I would never recommend them. But now I have to keep a lookout for them on other dogs.
Now i’m left wondering if this could happen with a Martingale. I don’t want to take any chances.
