Monty, the Poodle

Monty, the Poodle

Monty the poodle has a long-standing debt to Rover Achiever. He has torn apart several of my toys. I know other dog walkers frown upon me bringing toys into the offleash park but sorry, it’s BORING for some dogs. Not all dogs are big wrestlers. Those that love fetching deserve to be able to play. But Monty is relentless. He doesn’t want to play with the toys, he wants to destroy them. He also has some other nasty habits including grabbing poo bags from people’s hands as they make their way to the garbage. He will nip at my treat pouch. I know his dog walker is frustrated and no one wants their toys destroyed. I volunteered my citronella collar to Jen. As soon as he picked up his next victim, my Dino Cuz, Jen said drop. He turned to run away and I activated the remote. He dropped it immediately. We quickly rewarded him with a treat and waited. Was this good training? Not really. Monty should be taught some retreiving skills on a long line. I don’t blame Jen for not teaching him. She’s a dog walker, not a trainer. But at the end of the day, my Dino Cuz stills has his tail and that’s all that matters to me.
