24 Aug Tyson, WCFO Freestyle Leg and an enjoyable cup of Coffee
So a lot has happened in August. Tyson and I got our first leg in freestyle through WCFO. I’m so proud of him. But out of the ring he’s also had exceptional behaviour. I’ve been taking him and the rest of my group to some of the enclosed offleash areas nearby. I used to worry about bringing Tyson into such a small area with a high concentration of other dogs, especially when I have to watch the rest of my group. When we enter the enclosed area, I walk him around to meet all the dogs. He gets one click for a bum sniff/nice greeting and then a reward. I make sure we meet everyone and then I drop his leash. What I thought would be a highly stressful experience for him has turned out to be more enjoyable than I could ever have imagined, Tyson has fun! He relaxes in the presence of the other dogs and rolls in the grass or chases his ball. When it’s time to leave, he goes on strike, lying down and pleading to stay. Normally it would irritate me if another dog tried to do this. But when my once highly reactive puggle, is now enjoying himself in the close quarters of all these dogs, I couldn’t be happier.
So where does coffee come in? My husband and I have always dreamed of being one of those owners who could relax at the offleash park with our coffee. Because Tyson has always needed 100% management, having a coffee was out of the question. This weekend we grabbed some coffees and headed into the small enclosed offleash area at the Wychwood Barns with our 3 dogs. Hubby sat himself on the bench while the dogs just hung out. Tyson was brilliant. Bryan was shocked to see how he tolerated a big boisterous black lab that once upon a time would have thrown him into a frenzy. As my husband sat on the bench observing the dogs at play, we were both thinking, how nice it is to finally be able to relax at the dog park.
